So what exactly is Rugby AM Academy?

Rugby AM Academy is a 12-week-short course which at the end participants will gain a level 3 qualification in the arts and a portfolio showcasing all the new skills learnt and the products produced. The course includes 2 units which are explained below. The aim of this course is to develop candidates knowledge of media forms and experience of the arts.

Unit 1 - personal arts development.

This unit includes specific sections such as developing new skills, exploring different art forms such as filming, editing, producing, interviewing etc, researching artists within the field, work placement, reviewing events, researching issues and many more aspects.

Unit 2 - arts project leadership.

This unit is slightly different as it involves working in groups to create a piece of work rather than individually. This unit requires participants to show leadership skills, take responsibilities, plan and promote a media product.

The course was created by Alex Simmons (Rugby AM) as he felt like there isn't much opportunity for young adults these days as most jobs require degrees or lots of different work experience. This course provides people like me with the experience I need to hopefully get a job working in sport and creating media products.

As an extra part of the course you get the opportunity to work alongside Rugby AM producing or adding segments to the show or even better if you're a Leeds Rhinos fan like me, you can work alongside Leeds Rhinos TV whilst still learning new and transferable skills!

In just the few weeks that the course has been up and running I have learnt more practical skills such as how to set a camera up, how to upload articles to websites, how to edit clips and what software to use and so much more than I did studying 9 months at University. Plus I absolutely love rugby and I get to meet and work alongside some of the most famous faces in Rugby League!
